Supporting Disadvanctaged Children in Peterborough

This year S.C. Agency are getting involved with the Peterborough Book Gifting Scheme, run by Peterborough Reads and the National Literacy Trust.

Sadly one in eight children in the most disadvantaged areas of Peterborough do not own a book, we just could not comprehend this when we have had the luxury of many books throughout childhood. Children who don’t have books of their own are nearly four times more likely to read below the expected level for their age. Peterborough has a serious and growing literacy problem. The National Literacy Trust have launched a city wide campaign to gift a new book to a child through their Peterborough Book Gifting Scheme. Every book will go directly to a child in our most disadvantaged local schools.

Would you also like to get involved and see how many books we can provide.

Please join us by purchasing (and ideally gift wrapping) a book from the following list:

  • Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl
  • Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian
  • Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo
  • The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne
  • Riddle of the Runes by Janina Ramirez
  • The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis
  • The Jamie Drake Equation by Christopher Edge
  • The Explorer by Katherine Rundell
  • The Adventures of Robin Hood by Roger Green
  • Anneli the Art Hater by Anne Fine
  • Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson
  • Gangsta Granny by David Walliams

Post or drop your gift wrapped book to: Peterborough Book Gifting Scheme, Metro Bank, 29 Long Causeway, Peterborough, PE1 1YJ or send the books to S.C. Agency in Corby we we will work with the National Literacy Trust to get them to the right place.

Please share the campaign with your friends and family or on social media as the more books gifted the more children can be helped.

Not only is S.C. Agency supporting this scheme we are also actively promoting it via our Oundle & Surrounding Area virtual networking.
