This time last year we could never have imagined that 2020 would see all nurseries, schools, colleges and universities closed since March due to coronavirus (Covid-19). However we are now at the start of August and can actually say that it is Back to School in less than five weeks. Unless of course something drastic happens with regards to the infection rate rising and a change of plans by the government.

There are many essential measures that educational establishments need to follow to ensure the safe re-opening in Autumn 2020. These must be preventative measures in place to help students and staff clean hands thoroughly more often than usual along with introducing enhanced cleaning which must include cleaning frequently touched surfaces often.

The essential measures that must be followed include:

  • Ensuring that pupils clean hand’s regularly; on arrival, after breaks, when they move rooms and before and after eating
  • Considering and implementing regular and thorough hand cleaning procedures for the foreseeable future
  • Provide sufficient hand washing or hand sanitiser ‘stations’ so that all pupils and staff can clean their hands regularly and with ease of access
  • Supervision of hand sanitiser use, given risks around ingestion
  • Introduce enhanced cleaning of frequently touched surfaces
  • Introduce more frequent cleaning of rooms / shared areas and frequently touched surfaces

Plus the following to be considered:

  • minimise contact between individuals and maintain social distancing wherever possible (to be considered and measures put in place to suit their particular circumstances)
  • For specific circumstances only, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Sadly at time of writing the government guidelines do say there will be no addition funding for the schools to implement these measures, yet there is going to be an added cost to follow the essential measures of opening to their expenditure.

S.C. Agency since the start of lockdown have been working with schools, hospitals and education with the supply of a range of products to help protect and prevent the spread of coronavirus.
